Place de la Concorde at dusk through your suite window, the obelisk lights, you ask, she says yes.
"The 1758 Place de la Concorde palace, sunset suites facing the Tuileries and the Eiffel Tower."
Why this rank, Hotel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel opened as a hotel in 1909 in the 1758 Ange-Jacques Gabriel palace facing the Place de la Concorde. Rosewood took over operations in 2017 after a four-year complete restoration. 78 rooms and 36 suites. The Karl Lagerfeld-designed Grands Appartements (the Apartment de Marie-Antoinette and the Apartment Leonard Bernstein) face the Place de la Concorde with sunset views over the Tuileries, the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. Les Ambassadeurs on the ground floor runs the formal post-proposal dinner. L'Ecrin restaurant and the Crillon's restored Salon des Aigles handle the proposal-moment programme. The Sense Spa underground extends the celebration. The concierge has coordinated proposals across the Place de la Concorde for over a century. The Place de la Concorde position is the working Parisian palace address. Best for the iconic Paris proposal with the most recognisable city-skyline view in France.

"Place de la Concorde at dusk through your suite window, the obelisk lights, you ask, she says yes."
The Crillon occupies one of two matching 18th-century palaces on the north side of Place de la Concorde, designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel and built in 1758. It has been a hotel since 1909. The Karl Lagerfeld-designed Grands Appartements suites, completed in 2017 after a four-year closure, include the only Place de la Concorde-facing balcony rooms in Paris. The Concorde at sunset is the proposal view that the Eiffel Tower aspires to: the Luxor obelisk is lit, the Tuileries is lit, the Champs-Élysées is lit, and the gold of the limestone façade across the square sits in the same colour. The Crillon does proposals well because it does formal occasions well, this is the hotel that hosted the signing of the 1778 treaty between France and the United States. The bar (Les Ambassadeurs) is one of the great rooms in Paris. The courtyard is one of the great courtyards. If you want a proposal that feels like the most-French proposal possible, this is the hotel with the most-French address.
Grands Appartements Bernstein, Marie-Antoinette, or Léonard Bernstein, Place de la Concorde-facing, balcony, view of the obelisk and Tuileries.
Request a 9pm dinner reservation at Les Ambassadeurs followed by a Concorde-balcony champagne pour at sunset. The team will set the suite with two coupes, a chilled bottle of Krug, and white peonies, Lagerfeld's signature flower for the hotel.
Hôtel de Crillon sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Paris for a Proposal list. It scored an aggregate 9.8/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on proposal-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Paris neighbourhood, see 8th arrondissement, Place de la Concorde and adjacent. For a different city entirely, Lake Como, Capri, or New York, see the related lists below.
If you have already chosen the ring and the date, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. Most palace hotels in Paris hold their proposal-grade suites at premium rates that release closer to the date, but the best rooms with balconies and views go first, and the inventory for the popular months (April, June, September, December) is quoted in months, not weeks.
Editorial · #3 on the Top 20 Proposal Hotels 2026 list
Hotel de Crillon's case for the proposal stay is the Place de la Concorde-facing suite product. The Karl Lagerfeld-designed Grands Appartements (Apartment de Marie-Antoinette and Apartment Leonard Bernstein) face the Place directly, with sunset views over the Tuileries, the Eiffel Tower in the distance, and the Seine, which is the most photographable Paris-skyline view from any palace hotel suite.
The proposal-moment programme runs at Les Ambassadeurs on the ground floor (the formal salon under the original 18th-century mouldings), at L'Ecrin restaurant (where the lighting and the closed-room privacy can be configured for the proposal), or in-suite with the florist arrangement coordinated while the couple is at dinner. The Salon des Aigles is the alternative private dining setup.
The Bar Les Ambassadeurs handles the post-proposal cocktail anchor. The Sense Spa across the basement extends the next-day recovery. The Rosewood operational standard since 2017 means the concierge has coordinated hundreds of proposals across the Place de la Concorde, and the Bond Street ring logistics (the Crillon has direct relationships with the Place Vendome jewellers two blocks east) run with discretion. Best for the iconic Paris proposal at palace tier.
