Newer Edition, Ginza-central, the shopping-and-walking solo base.
"The 2023 EDITION Ginza opening, Tokyo's second EDITION, the Ginza-fashion-district address, the rooftop with Tokyo Tower view."
Why this rank, The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza opened in October 2023 - the second Tokyo EDITION after Toranomon, the brand's bet on a fashion-and-shopping-led Ginza visitor profile distinct from the Toranomon business-traveler register. 86 rooms only across floors 5-13 of the Ginza Sony Park development, designed by Schrager with smaller-scale intimacy. The Ginza location places the property between Tokyo Station (six blocks north), Shimbashi (four blocks south), and the working Ginza fashion-house corridor (Chanel, Dior, Cartier all within four blocks). Restaurant: The Ginza Edition restaurant program is calibrated to the Ginza dining scene - the property does not maintain a full destination restaurant, instead drawing guests to the Ginza-resident Michelin establishments two-to-eight blocks away. The Ginza Edition Bar runs the cocktail program; the rooftop bar with Tokyo Tower view is the property's most-photographed setting. The Penthouse Suite occupies the top floor with private rooftop access. Best for shopping-led Tokyo trips, fashion-industry stays, and Ginza-base visits where the daily Ginza walk is the trip's principal rhythm.
Best room: Penthouse Suite - top-floor with rooftop access, Tokyo Tower view.
"Newer Edition, Ginza-central, the shopping-and-walking solo base."
The Tokyo EDITION Ginza opened in 2023 as Ian Schrager's second Tokyo property (the first being the Toranomon EDITION), a 70-room boutique on Ginza 8-chome at the southern end of the main Ginza shopping axis. The architecture by Kengo Kuma uses a different vocabulary from the Toranomon property, paler woods, more washi paper, brighter rooms, designed for the central-Ginza walking-and-shopping use case rather than the Toranomon-Hills business-cluster context. Seventy rooms only, the smallest count of any Tokyo EDITION property and the most-personal scale among contemporary-design Tokyo hotels. The rooftop bar Sophie at the EDITION is the after-day space; the lobby Bar Goldbar handles the afternoon-cocktail-hour. The Tokyo EDITION Ginza is the right pick for the solo retreat where Ginza is the working district, the morning walks past Mitsukoshi, Wako, Itoya, the afternoon at the Ginza Six art-installation cluster, the evening counter dinner at one of Ginza's many small omakase restaurants, and the property's small scale is the working asset for the solo guest who values being recognised by the front desk on the second visit.
EDITION Suite (the corner-suite flagship) or Premier King for the entry-level Kengo-Kuma-designed room.
Walk the Ginza axis from Yurakucho at 9am, the morning is the working time, the streets are empty until 11am. Eat at a counter omakase on the second night; the concierge will book the 7-seat counters that don't take outside reservations. Sophie at the EDITION at 7pm for the after-day cocktail.
The Tokyo EDITION Ginza sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Tokyo for a Solo Retreat list. It scored an aggregate 9.5/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on a solo retreat-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Tokyo neighbourhood, see Ginza and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.
If you have already chosen the dates, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces, the ones that earn this rank, are typically the first to sell out.
Editorial · #13 on the Top 20 Tokyo Hotels 2026 list
The Tokyo EDITION Ginza ranks #13 as the brand's second Tokyo property - the 2023 opening completed Schrager's Tokyo footprint with a Ginza-fashion-district address distinct from Toranomon's business-traveler register. The 86-room scale is smaller and more intimate than Toranomon's 206 rooms.
For Tokyo visitors, EDITION Ginza is the address for shopping-led visits, fashion-industry business stays, and Ginza-base trips where the daily Ginza walking corridor is the trip's principal structure. The Ginza location places the property four blocks from Chanel, Dior, Cartier, and Hermès; six blocks from Tokyo Station; and four blocks from Shimbashi. The rooftop bar with Tokyo Tower view in the distance is the property's most-photographed setting. The Penthouse Suite has rooftop terrace access.
