Set expectations for a design-led hotel oriented to the creative-industry crowd that gravitates to Sunset Boulevard, rather than a large, formal grande dame, and it delivers. The honest caveat is that the name is new and the programming is still bedding in, so a stay here is a bet on a property finding its rhythm under fresh ownership rather than a decades-settled institution. For guests who want the view, the Puck kitchens and a walkable Strip base, that bet pays off.

What are the best rooms to request?

Request a higher-floor room facing south over the basin, and step up to a suite if you want the terrace. The 149 rooms and suites sit across the building's residential floors, each done in a contemporary West Hollywood palette of warm tones and quality linens, with floor-to-ceiling windows positioned to make the most of the hotel's hillside elevation. The suites add living-room separation and extended terrace access, and on this site the view is the amenity, so the outlook should drive the booking more than square footage. Sunset Tower Hotel is the Art Deco classic further along the Strip, quieter and more grown-up, built around the Tower Bar. 1 Hotel West Hollywood is the nature-forward alternative up the hill with the best rooftop-pool view in the area. The Sun Rose's own trade-off is that it is a freshly rebranded hotel still settling into its new identity, so book it for the roof, the Puck restaurants and the live-music programme.
