A 33-metre infinity pool that frames Lumpini Park. The most photogenic swim in Bangkok at sunset.

"A 33-metre infinity pool that frames Lumpini Park. The most photogenic swim in Bangkok at sunset."

The rooftop pool, in detail

SO/ Bangkok is the Bangkok flagship of Accor's SO/ design-led hotel brand. The 33-metre rooftop infinity pool on the 10th floor faces directly into Lumpini Park, with 142 acres of palms and lake on one side and the South Sathorn Road tower line on the other. The pool was conceived as part of the hotel's overall fashion and architecture concept, with the original creative direction by Christian Lacroix.

33 metres in length is unusual for a Bangkok city hotel; most are 18 to 25 metres. The infinity edge faces north into Lumpini Park. The pool is heated year-round. The deck construction uses polished concrete and timber, a more architectural palette than the polished marble standard of most Bangkok rooftop pools.

The deck includes the pool, Park Society rooftop restaurant, a long deck-edge bar, and several cabana banquettes that can be reserved. The pool is for hotel guests only; Park Society is open to the public.

The view

Lumpini Park is the dominant view; in the early morning the park is in mist and the surrounding tower silhouettes are visible above the tree line. At sunset the western Bangkok skyline catches the light and the park darkens into a foreground frame.

The morning swim versus the evening swim

SO/ Bangkok is one of the rare rooftop pools where the time-of-day choice meaningfully changes the experience. The morning swim (6 to 8 am) is into the empty park with the Bangkok skyline still half-lit. The evening swim (5 to 7 pm) is the photogenic version, with the tower line lit and the park in shadow. The pool is open 6 am to 10 pm.

Best room to request

SO Comfy Suite, Park view, 18th floor or above; the suite has direct sightline to Lumpini Park from the room itself, replicating the pool view.

Concierge tip

The evening swim and dinner at Park Society on the 29th floor is the standard pairing. Reverse it: swim in the morning, eat dinner at Red Oven on the same floor as the pool, and you avoid the 8 pm dinner queue and the pool crowd at the same time.

The wider context

SO/ Bangkok ranks #9 on our Top 20 Rooftop Pool Hotels list and is one of four Bangkok hotels on the list (alongside Lebua at State Tower at #6, Capella Bangkok at #10 and Park Hyatt Bangkok at #18).
