The rooftop pool, in detail

Lebua at State Tower is the Bangkok hotel that most travelers recognise from the second Hangover film. The 63rd-floor rooftop infinity pool runs nearly the full south-facing length of the building, with unobstructed views across the Chao Phraya River and southern Bangkok. The hotel sits on Silom Road in the central business district, in the upper floors of the State Tower designed by Rangsan Torsuwan.

The pool is 25 metres long, infinity-edged, and oriented south toward the river bend. The water is heated; the surrounding deck is built out of polished granite. The pool is for hotel guests only; day passes are not offered.

The deck is adjacent to Sky Bar (also known as Sirocco), which is the iconic Hangover venue, and the Skydining and Distil restaurants are on the same level. The deck closes to the public from late afternoon when Sky Bar opens, but the pool itself remains accessible to hotel guests around the clock.

The view

The southern view is the dominant one: the Chao Phraya curving west, the Krung Thep Bridge in the foreground, the southern Bangkok skyline stretching toward the Gulf. At night the river traffic and the bridge lights are visible from the deck.

How to use the pool around the Sky Bar crowd

The Lebua's challenge is that the pool deck is on the same level as the Sky Bar, which is one of the busiest rooftop bars in Bangkok. The pool is functionally empty from 6 to 9 am, busy with the bar crowd from 6 to 11 pm, and closed for cleaning briefly midday. The right swim window is the early morning, with breakfast at Mezzaluna on the 65th floor as the pairing.

Best room to request

Tower Club Studio Suite, 51st floor or above; the panorama suites include river views and access to the Tower Club lounge on the 52nd floor.

Concierge tip

Avoid the 5 to 7 pm window when Sky Bar opens and the pool deck fills with bar patrons heading up. Swim at 6:30 am or after 9 pm once the bar empties.
