Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa

Bermuda's first cottage colony, founded 1923, eighty-five rooms in pastel cottages on a private 23-acre peninsula at the western tip of the island, four private beaches, adults-only since the 1960s, the closest thing the Atlantic has to a small Greek-island private retreat.

Honeymoon Anniversary Wellness Retreat Adults-Only

"The original Bermuda cottage colony, still operated as one. No children, no big-resort programming, no rebrand. Just a private peninsula, four beaches, and the kind of decade-tenured staff that contemporary resorts can't manufacture."

The Hotel

Cambridge Beaches was founded in 1923 by the British-Bermudian Cambridge family on a 23-acre peninsula at the western tip of Bermuda, and is the original Bermuda cottage colony, the model that every other "cottage" property on the island spent the next half-century imitating. The earliest cottages were converted from a 17th-century farmhouse and outbuildings; subsequent additions were built in the same vernacular through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. The hotel went adults-only in the 1960s, long before the format had a marketing label, and has remained so without interruption. Current ownership invested in a steady programme of cottage refurbishments through the 2010s and the early 2020s; the underlying envelope and colony layout are untouched.

There are 85 keys spread across roughly 30 free-standing pastel cottages, each named for a Bermudian location or person. Standard cottages run between 35 and 45 square metres; Suite categories larger, with separate sitting rooms and private terraces; the Premier Cottages (Cambridge Beach, Long Bay, Whale Bay) are the headline waterfront units with private patios on the sand. Three Premier Cottages have private plunge pools added during the 2018 refresh. Every cottage has air conditioning, a king bed, marble bath, and a private terrace; about a third have a sea view, the rest face the colony gardens.

The peninsula has four private beaches: Long Bay (the largest, on the Atlantic-facing side), Mangrove Bay (the calm sound-side swimming bay), Cambridge Beach (the central pink-sand cove between the cottages), and the Tamarisk Beach (the smallest and quietest). The Ocean Spa runs eight treatment rooms in a converted boathouse over Mangrove Bay, its signature 90-minute ocean-view massage is the most asked-for treatment in the system. The infinity pool sits above Long Bay; an indoor lap pool runs through the spa block. The Tamarisk Room is the main fine-dining restaurant; Breezes is the all-day casual on Long Bay; the Cambridge Beach Bar runs the sunset cocktail hour every night of the year.

The defining feature is the staff. Cambridge has the most long-tenured workforce of any hotel on Bermuda, the average tenure runs over 15 years, and several front-of-house staff have crossed 30, and the depth of guest recognition that produces is the actual proposition. Combined with a strict adults-only policy, four private beaches, and the most considered spa-and-cottage layout on the island, Cambridge is the answer for couples who want quiet, recognition, and the kind of weekly-stay tradition that almost every other Bermuda hotel has stopped trying to maintain. It is also the most reliable wellness-and-decompression hotel in Bermuda, by some distance.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

Premier Cottages with private plunge pools, Cambridge Beach, Long Bay, Whale Bay, are the booking. The strict no-children policy delivers what most resorts only promise. Four private beaches mean a couple can find a stretch of sand to themselves on any day of the year. Tamarisk Room at sunset and the Ocean Spa together cover the rest of the brief. Honeymoon-week packages typically include a couples spa treatment and a private dinner on Cambridge Beach.

Anniversary

Returning Cambridge guests typically book the same cottage they stayed in last time, and the staff remember. For an anniversary stay, that recognition is the actual product. The Premier Cottages with plunge pools are the milestone option; the standard waterfront cottages cover the quieter weekend; the spa packages are unobtrusively excellent.

Wellness Retreat

Cambridge is the most credible wellness-and-decompression address on Bermuda. The Ocean Spa, the indoor lap pool, the daily yoga programme on Cambridge Beach, the absence of children and the absence of any conference activity, and the cottage-on-a-private-peninsula format combine into a stay that genuinely resets. The longer programmes (5- and 7-night Spa Retreats) include daily treatments and a nutritionist consultation.
