Family Holiday Anniversary Beach / Island

"Schooner's Cove is the rare Cannon Beach booking that puts both the sand and the Hemlock Street restaurants within a one-block walk, and the oceanfront hot tub on the beachfront lawn is the village's most unselfconscious end-of-day amenity."

The Hotel

Schooner's Cove Inn occupies one of the most strategically located parcels in Cannon Beach: a downtown oceanfront site at the north end of Hemlock Street where the village's main commercial spine meets the dune-and-sand transition to the beach. From the property's beachfront lawn the Haystack Rock view sits squarely off to the south, and the Cannon Beach Bookstore, Sweet Basil's Cafe, and the EVOO cooking school are all a three-minute walk east. Few hotels in the village split the difference between oceanfront and downtown as cleanly as Schooner's Cove does, and the property's pricing reflects the location rather than the architecture.

The inn is arranged as a multi-storey timber-clad building with around thirty rooms across seven different floorplan categories. The base category is a Standard Studio with one queen bed and a kitchenette; from there the property moves into Ocean View Studios, then into one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites with separate sitting areas, then into the two beachfront top-floor suites that are the property's premium room category. Every room includes a private bathroom, a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and dishwasher, and air conditioning (a real differentiator on the Oregon Coast, where many older properties have none). Some rooms add a private balcony; most have at least a slice of ocean view through the property's beach-facing windows.

The property's signature amenity is the beachfront lawn at the western edge of the parcel: a patio with deck chairs, a fire pit, a covered oceanfront hot tub open to all guests, and a direct stair down to the sand. There is no on-site restaurant, but the kitchenettes are real working kitchens (the dishwasher is unusual at this rate tier on the Oregon Coast), and the Hemlock Street strip of restaurants is a one- to three-minute walk east. The property is dog-friendly with a fee, holds two off-street parking spaces per room, and runs at unusually low staff turnover for a downtown property.

Schooner's Cove Inn is not a four-star resort and does not pretend to be one. What it offers is a particularly well-located Cannon Beach base for two demographics: families who want the village amenities within a walk and the kitchenette setup for the breakfast and lunch routine, and couples who would rather spend their dining-out budget at Newmans at 988 or the EVOO cooking-class dinner than on a more expensive hotel room. The oceanfront hot tub at sunset, with a glass of Pacific Northwest wine and Haystack Rock to the south, is the property's most reliable single moment, and it is the principal reason most return guests come back.

Best Occasion Fit

Family Holiday

Schooner's Cove is a sensible Cannon Beach family booking because the property is built around the kitchenette and the lawn. The two-bedroom suites accommodate up to six in two sleeping areas plus a sitting room; the kitchen handles cereal and sandwich days without restaurant-budget anxiety; the beachfront lawn with its fire pit lets parents see their children on the sand from a deck chair; and the downtown walk to Bruce's Candy Kitchen, the Cannon Beach Bookstore, and Mariner Market is a quick post-dinner stroll.

Anniversary

For an anniversary on the Oregon Coast, Schooner's Cove is the booking when the priority is a walk-to-everything position and an oceanfront hot tub at sunset rather than a hotel restaurant. Book one of the top-floor beachfront suites for the strongest Haystack Rock view; reserve a table at Newmans at 988 or the Driftwood Restaurant in advance; and bring a bottle of Willamette Valley pinot for the in-room kitchenette.
