The Hotel

InterContinental Ljubljana opened in September 2017 as Slovenia's tallest hotel and the country's first InterContinental, a 21-storey glass tower commissioned by the Slovenian developer Stebri and operated by IHG. The building was designed by the Ljubljana practice Sadar+Vuga with a faceted glass façade that has quickly become a defining element of the contemporary Slovenska Cesta skyline. The hotel sits directly on Slovenska, a five-minute walk north of Prešeren Square and Triple Bridge, two minutes from the city bus station, and three from the railway station.

The 165 rooms (including 23 suites) are arranged across floors 4 through 19, the lower floors house meeting space, the Bar Pritlicje rooftop on 20, the Brasserie Cubo restaurant, and a ground-floor lobby that doubles as the property's coffee bar. Standard rooms run 28, 32 square metres with floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms, walk-in rain showers, and the higher-floor categories look directly at the Alps to the north and over the medieval Old Town and Ljubljana Castle to the south. The Penthouse Suite occupies the corner of the top residential floor and is the largest suite in any Slovenian hotel.

Bar Pritlicje on the 20th floor is the hotel's signature room, a wraparound rooftop terrace that opened with the building and quickly became Ljubljana's most consistently busy panoramic bar, with bookings six weeks ahead for summer Friday and Saturday evenings. The Brasserie Cubo on the ground floor is the all-day restaurant; the Club InterContinental lounge on the 19th floor handles the executive-floor breakfast, evening cocktails, and pre-departure refreshments for upper-tier loyalty members.

The position is the proposition no other Ljubljana hotel can equal, Slovenska 59 is the city's central business spine, two minutes' walk to NLB and SKB banking headquarters, three minutes to the main university campus, four minutes to the diplomatic quarter, and seven minutes by foot to Prešeren Square. The hotel also runs the city's largest contemporary conference floor (the 14th, capacity 350) and is the default Ljubljana address for international corporate visits, EU presidency-period diplomatic stays, and the city's largest contemporary weddings.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

For Ljubljana business stays at the level where the building itself communicates seriousness, the InterContinental is the only contemporary answer. The 14th-floor conference centre handles the city's largest corporate meetings; the Club InterContinental lounge on 19 runs the most reliable executive breakfast; the position three minutes from NLB, the Stock Exchange, and the central ministries is decisive; and Pritlicje on 20 is the city's preferred banking-evening rooftop for client entertaining.

Anniversary

A Ljubljana anniversary at the InterContinental works best in the upper-floor suites with castle and Alps views; book a Penthouse or one of the top-floor Junior Suites and the Pritlicje rooftop becomes the natural opening drink before dinner in the Old Town. The Brasserie Cubo handles intimate dinners on quieter weeknights; the in-room dining menu is the most comprehensive in Ljubljana.

Solo Retreat

For a solo Ljubljana stay where the rooms and the views do most of the work, an InterContinental Junior Suite on a north-facing upper floor is the most rewarding contemporary booking in the city. The 21st-floor wellness centre (sauna, steam, indoor pool) is the city's best contemporary spa floor; the Club lounge gives solo travellers a calm working space; the walking position to Tivoli Park, the National Gallery, and the Old Town is the city at its most compact.
