The Hotel

The Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah is the senior international resort in the Dhofar region, the property opened in 1996 as the Hilton Salalah and was rebranded under InterContinental Hotels Group's Crowne Plaza marque in 2002. The forty-two acres at Al Dahariz, ten minutes from central Salalah and twenty-five from Salalah International Airport, were a generous tropical-garden land package that the contemporary master-planned competitors at Al Saadah cannot match. The resort sits directly on a long stretch of private Indian Ocean beach.

The 153 rooms are spread across two-storey garden pavilions and a small low-rise main wing. Standard Rooms run 35, 40 square metres; Beachfront Rooms (a category unique to this property in Salalah) sit immediately above the sand line; Junior Suites and Family Suites occupy the better positions on the garden side. A multi-year refurbishment programme through the late 2010s replaced soft furnishings, bathroom fittings, and the lobby; the property reads more current than its 1996 vintage would suggest. The three interconnecting swimming pools sitting at the heart of the gardens are the visual signature of the resort and the genuine differentiator from the newer beach properties.

The nine-hole, par-three garden golf course, the only on-resort golf in Salalah, is the second differentiator and the practical reason the property continues to draw a strong corporate-incentive book through the Khareef and shoulder seasons. The food-and-beverage line-up is broad: Darbat is the all-day international restaurant on the lobby level; Aroos Al Bahar serves Mediterranean specialties on the beach terrace; the Pool Bar runs through the day; the Sails Bar is the evening venue. The ballroom and dedicated executive meeting floor (the IHG Crowne Plaza Meetings Director platform) support the resort's banking-and-corporate-incentive position.

Service is calibrated to senior international resort standard. Strong points are the tennis and squash courts, the spa, the garden golf, the kids club (smaller than the Rotana's but well-run), and the beach itself, long, quiet, and effectively private to the resort. The verdict for the Dhofar traveller is that the Crowne Plaza is the most settled of the international resorts in Salalah, the natural choice when the gardens-and-pools proposition matters more than the very-newest beach pavilion, and a particularly strong answer for the corporate-incentive book that historically anchors Khareef season in Oman.

Best Occasion Fit

Family Holiday

Three interlocking pools, a kids club, a long private beach, family-suite room types, the only garden golf in Salalah, the property is engineered for the family book and runs strongest in school holidays and Khareef season. The forty-two-acre site has the advantage that children can be cycled (the resort runs a small bicycle hire) through gardens that no Salalah Beach competitor can offer.

Business

Crowne Plaza's IHG meetings infrastructure, the dedicated executive floor, the ballroom, the breakout rooms, the airport-transfer-to-meeting-room workflow, makes this the default Salalah property for the corporate-incentive book that anchors Khareef season for Omani banks, oil-and-gas operators, and the visiting MICE business out of the GCC.

Wellness Retreat

The resort spa (full hammam, six treatment rooms, and a dedicated indoor pool), the long beach for walking practice, and the cool Khareef-season climate combine into a credible wellness setting at a price point well below the regional ultra-luxury properties. Not the Maldives, but for accessible Indian Ocean wellness with a flight from the GCC, hard to argue against.
