The Hotel

The Stephanie Inn opened in 1993 on a south-Cannon-Beach oceanfront parcel that few hotels in the region have ever managed to assemble: a continuous stretch of Pacific shoreline immediately south of the central Haystack Rock viewpoint, with the dunes themselves between the hotel and the surf. The inn was conceived from the outset as Oregon's answer to the Pacific-Coast country-inn tradition that already existed at the Ahwahnee and the Post Ranch further south, scaled down to a tighter footprint and a more domestic register. It has held a AAA Four Diamond rating consistently and remains one of only a handful of Oregon Coast properties to do so.

The 41 rooms are arranged across a three-storey timber-clad main building set perpendicular to the beach, so that every guestroom faces directly out to the ocean. The base category, Mountain View, is the only room type without a sea aspect; from there the property moves through Carriage House, Town, Garden, and Ocean View grades into Premium and Premier Oceanfront rooms with private balconies and the full Haystack Rock panorama. Every room includes a gas fireplace, a king bed, an oversized soaking tub, and the marble bathroom the inn has been refurbishing in rolling stages since 2018. Rooms are domestic in scale and tone, the closest the Oregon Coast comes to a country-house aesthetic, with deliberately restrained palettes that defer to the view.

The dining room is the central proposition that separates the Stephanie Inn from the Cannon Beach competition. Breakfast is a complimentary chef's buffet open only to in-house guests, served in the glass-walled oceanfront room from seven each morning. The evening menu is a four-course prix fixe that runs around USD 95 per guest and is open to a small number of outside reservations alongside hotel guests; the kitchen leans heavily on Oregon Coast seafood, Willamette Valley produce, and Pacific Northwest wines. A complimentary afternoon wine gathering in the library and an evening port-and-nightcap service round out the inclusions that have made the Stephanie Inn the standard against which other Oregon Coast country inns are measured.

The Stephanie Inn is the rare American oceanfront property that is genuinely run as a small luxury inn rather than a beach resort. There is no on-site pool, no children's programme, and no organised activity desk; guests under 12 are not accommodated. What the inn offers instead is the Cannon Beach equivalent of an Aman or a Post Ranch arrangement: a tight staff-to-guest ratio, a concierge that books Ecola State Park hikes and Astoria daytrips before the request is even made, complimentary in-room movies, guest bicycles, and the most consistently warm front-of-house in the village. Booking three to four months ahead is standard for summer; six months is closer to reliable for the high-season oceanfront categories.

Best Occasion Fit

Anniversary

An anniversary at the Stephanie Inn is the Cannon Beach default for a reason. The Premier Oceanfront rooms put Haystack Rock in the bedroom window; the four-course dining-room menu handles the celebration dinner without leaving the property; the complimentary afternoon wine gathering and evening nightcap mean the evening lengthens itself naturally. The Carriage House rooms are the value entry point; the Premier Oceanfront with balcony is the milestone version.

Honeymoon

A Stephanie Inn honeymoon is the West Coast country-inn equivalent of a small-island stay: forty-one rooms, no children under 12, no pool deck, and a dining room that means most couples never feel the need to leave the building. The complimentary breakfast and evening wine gathering eliminate the planning friction of an ordinary beach week. Ask for a Premium or Premier Oceanfront on the south-facing top floor for the strongest Haystack Rock view.

Proposal

For a Cannon Beach proposal, the Stephanie Inn pairs the only oceanfront suite category in the village with a dining room that can absolutely be arranged around the moment. A south-window Premier Oceanfront at sunset, the four-course menu booked in advance, the staff briefed without being intrusive, the ring waiting in the fireplace mantel: the property handles this brief several times a month and treats it as standard.
