The Hotel

Resorts Casino Hotel opened on May 26, 1978, at 10:00 a.m., as the first casino-resort to operate in the United States outside the state of Nevada and the first post-legalization Atlantic City property. The opening ribbon was cut by Governor Brendan Byrne; the first dice roll at the property's craps tables was thrown by Steve Lawrence, who along with Eydie Gorme headlined the inaugural shows at the then-1,700-seat Super Star Theater. The site was originally occupied by two Quaker rooming houses (the Chalfonte House, built 1868 by Elisha and Elizabeth Roberts, and the adjacent Haddon House), the foundations of which still anchor the current property's North Beach footprint.

The current configuration delivers 942 guest rooms and suites across two hotel towers on a 21-acre oceanfront parcel at the north end of the Atlantic City Boardwalk, between New Hampshire and North Carolina Avenues. The original Ocean Tower (constructed in stages through the 1978 opening) holds the heritage-character inventory. The Rendezvous Tower (a later expansion) holds the contemporary-renovation rooms with the dedicated Boardwalk-view category. Suite categories include the Premier Penthouse, the Rendezvous Tower Penthouse, and the Ocean Tower Suites; all premium categories feature dedicated concierge service and the Mohegan Sun Wild Card Loyalty tier programme.

The 80,000-square-foot casino floor preserves a more intimate character than the larger Boardwalk properties, with 1,650 slot machines, 78 table games, the dedicated Resorts Poker Room, and the dedicated Mohegan Sun Sports Bar & Sportsbook. The property runs nine bars including the rooftop Eastwind Bar, the LandShark Bar & Grill (the Jimmy Buffett-licensed beachfront concept, operating directly on the sand from May through October), and Margaritaville (the casino-floor Buffett-themed restaurant complex). The Capriccio fine-dining outlet (the Italian-classic dining room, a continuous presence since the 1978 opening) and Gallagher's Steakhouse (the New York transplant) handle the upper-end dining programme.

Two theaters anchor the resident entertainment programme: the 1,500-seat Superstar Theater (the renamed-and-refreshed successor to the 1978 Super Star Theater) and the 350-seat Resorts Casino Theater. The property is currently operated under management by Mohegan Sun (the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority) following the 2012 acquisition, and remains the only Atlantic City casino with continuous operation since the post-legalization opening date. For travellers prioritising the historic-Boardwalk founding-date provenance over contemporary glass-tower aesthetic, Resorts holds a position no later-opening property can replicate.

Best Occasion Fit

Anniversary

The 1978-founding provenance frames an Atlantic City anniversary with the heritage-Boardwalk identity, Capriccio runs the city's longest-continuously-operating fine-dining outlet (the kind of single-night reservation that justifies the trip), the rooftop Eastwind Bar handles sunset cocktails, and the Ocean Tower Boardwalk-view category delivers the milestone-weekend room category. LandShark on the sand from May to October is the seasonal anniversary booking.

Business

The 64,000 square feet of conference and meeting space across two levels, the Superstar Theater for large-format general sessions, Gallagher's Steakhouse and Capriccio for client entertainment, and the Boardwalk North-Beach location for delegate downtime make Resorts a credible mid-size meeting venue. Mohegan Sun Wild Card Loyalty tier programme delivers comparable-resort benefits across the operator's portfolio.

Bachelor / Bachelorette

Margaritaville and LandShark deliver the most operationally distinct group-dining programme in Atlantic City, the rooftop Eastwind Bar handles arrival cocktails, the Superstar Theater runs continuous resident-act programming for after-dinner entertainment, and the Mohegan Sun group-host coordination can be arranged across the Rendezvous Tower. The Jimmy Buffett brand association keeps the property on the festive end of the city.
